Explore Toronto’s neighbourhoods

The old city and downtown

Dense blocks, streetcars and both main subway lines. Older houses and walk-ups sit beside towers; the waterfront and the rail lands are almost entirely new condominiums. Everything is close, and green space comes in smaller pieces.

North York and the Yonge corridor

Tower clusters along the subway at Yonge and Sheppard, with quieter streets of houses between. The farther from the subway, the more a trip depends on a bus or a car.

Etobicoke and Scarborough

Post-war suburbs: bigger lots, apartment slabs set in green space, and much of the ravine system, from the Humber to the Rouge. Buses do more of the work, and the distances are longer.
